The wrestling federation of Russia has provided its lineup for the 2016 Men’s Freestyle Wrestling World Cup at The Forum in Inglewood, Calif., June 11-12.

The World Cup is the annual international dual meet championships, and will feature the top eight men’s freestyle wrestling teams in the world.

This Russian team is led by three individual World champions: 2014 World champion Soslan Ramonov at 65 kg/143 lbs., World champion Khetik Tsabolov, who won his World title at 70 kg/154 lbs. but is entered at 74 kg/163 lbs. and 2014 World champion Abdusalam Gadisov at 97 kg/213 lbs.

Gadisov and Ramonov are both two-time World medalists, as Gadisov was second and Ramonov was third at the 2015 World Championships in Las Vegas, Nev. Gadisov was also ninth at the 2012 Olympic Games.

2013 World bronze medalist Magomed Kurbanaliev will compete at 65 kg/143 lbs. Anzor Urishev, who was eighth at the 2012 Olympic Games, will compete at 86 kg/189 lbs.

The Russian athletes on the World Cup roster have a strong background in the age-group levels, with five past Junior World champions on the team, Kurbanaliev, Tsabolov and Gadisov, plus Zaur Makiev who is competing at 74 kg/163 lbs. and Muradin Kushkov, who will wrestle at 125 kg/275 lbs.

Champions at past World University Championships or World University Games include Kurbanaliev, Tsabolov, Kudiamagomedov and Gadisov.

The Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix, held annually in Russia, is considered one of the toughest freestyle events in the world every year. Urishev has won it four times and Gadisov has won it twice. Other past Ivan Yarygin Grand Prix champions include Kurbanaliev, Makiev, Kudiamagomedov, Kushkov and Zaur Sidakov at 70 kg/154 lbs.

Russia placed first at the 2015 World Championships, which were held in Las Vegas, Nev. Russia was fourth at the 2015 World Cup held in Los Angeles.

The eight nations which will compete for the 2016 World Cup are (alphabetically) Azerbaijan, Georgia, India, Iran, Mongolia, Russia, Turkey and the United States. Nations were invited based upon final team standings at the 2015 World Championships.

Russia has drawn into Group A, where it will face Georgia, Turkey and Mongolia.

The 2014 and 2015 Freestyle World Cup were also held in Los Angeles. The United States was second at the 2015 World Cup and third at the 2014 World Cup. The USA team will feature all six 2016 Olympic team members in freestyle wrestling.
