The Wisconsin RTC hosted their fourth wrestling event this evening, featuring 12 matches on the main card including seven men’s freestyle bouts, four women’s freestyle bouts and one Greco-Roman matchup.

In the night’s main event, Evan Wick pinned Tyler Berger at 169 pounds. Wick was trailing Berger, a three-time All-American and NCAA finalist for Nebraska, 4-3, when he secured a crotch lock and exposed Berger for two points before cranking him over for the fall.

Wick, a three-time All-American for Wisconsin, is currently taking an Olympic redshirt and focusing primarily on freestyle. He won a U23 Nationals title at 74 kg last November.

In the night’s penultimate match, Braxton Amos recorded a big win over TJ Dudley, 7-2, at 205 pounds. Amos controlled the bout against the three-time All-American and NCAA finalist for Nebraska, never trailing at any point in the match and recording three step outs and three takedowns to Dudley’s one takedown.

While he is not officially enrolled at Wisconsin yet, Amos was one of the biggest recruits in the country when he committed last year. In October, Amos placed fourth at the Senior Nationals in Greco-Roman.

The card’s premier women’s freestyle bout featured two-time World bronze medalist Alyssa Lampe taking on Erin Golston at 114 pounds. The pair wrestled earlier this month at the Captain’s Cup, with Lampe claiming a 9-4 victory. This time around, it was all Lampe. Utilizing three takedowns, a turn with a gut wrench and a step-out point, she secured a 9-0 victory.

2018 U23 World Team member Colton McCrystal picked up two victories in two matches. First, he downed Joe Zargo, another future Wisconsin wrestler, 9-4. Next he defeated 2017 Junior World silver medalist Mitch McKee in a thrilling, 12-8, battle. McCrystal countered a McKee body lock attempt and followed it up with a gut wrench to take a 6-0 lead. McKee got himself back in striking distance with a four-point feet-to-back takedown. The pair then traded takedowns until the buzzer, with McCrystal scoring at the final whistle for good measure. Earlier in the night, McKee turned in a dominant, 10-0, win over 2020 NWCA Second-Team All-American Henry Pohlmeyer.

In another high-profile women’s freestyle match, the veteran Julia Salata defeated 2019 Junior World Team member Michaela Beck, 5-0. Salata, a 2019 Pan Am Championships gold medalist and 2014 World University Championships bronze medalist, earned a passivity point, two points from an exposure on a crotch lift and a takedown from countering one of Beck’s shots.

The card’s sole Greco-Roman match featured 2020 Senior Nationals fifth-place finisher Ryan Epps squaring off with Tyler Dow, a 2018 Junior World Team member. Epps struck first, countering a Dow throw attempt for two points. Dow responded with a go-behind into a gut wrench to pull ahead, 4-2. Epps continued to find his offense, scoring off his own throw attempt and locking up a trapped arm gut wrench for an exposure, eventually earning the victory, 6-4.

At 149 pounds, 2019 Cadet World bronze medalist Kylie Welker wrestled tough against 2020 UWW Junior Nationals champion Marisol Nugent, earning a 12-1 technical fall. Welker recorded three takedowns including a four pointer and two turns to claim the bout.

Other bouts that took place included 2018 Cadet World champion Matt Ramos earning an 8-4 decision over Ethan Rotondo, 2020 NCAA qualifier Collin Purinton winning an 11-5 bout over former Cadet Greco-Roman World Team member Devin Bahr and Mia Palumbo exhibiting a dominant display, 10-0, over Rose Ann Marshall in a battle of some of the nation’s top high school wrestlers.
