Seven returning champs still in mix at Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals

DES MOINES, Iowa – The first day of the 2020 Brian Keck Memorial Preseason Nationals wrapped up on Friday night with the high school boys divisions wrestling through the round of 16, setting up for Saturday’s quarterfinals.

Among those that advanced to the quarterfinals include seven returning Preseason Nationals champions, a 2019 Cadet World Team member and a 2019 U15 World silver medalist.

They are listed below:

9th-10th grade

• 126 pounds – Brock Woodcock, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion
• 145 pounds – Kyler Wong, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion
• 160 pounds – Brayden Thompson, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion
• 285 pounds – Matthew Moore, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion

11th-12th grade

• 120 pounds – Joey Cruz, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion
• 120 pounds – Keith Smith, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion
• 120 pounds – Jett Strickenberger, 2019 Cadet World Team member in Greco-Roman
• 170 pounds – Bradley Gillum, 2019 freestyle U15 World silver medalist
• 182 pounds – Stephen Little, 2019 Preseason Nationals champion

They were also several upsets on the day among the 29 weight classes, which are listed below.
