A variety of international wrestling news items have appeared in recent days, which U.S. wrestling fans may have missed. Here are some excerpts from the reports, and links to the stories from those outlets which made the report.

Asian Games champion Esmaeilpour to make wrestling comeback

Masoud Esmaeilpour, an Asian Games champion wrestler, is making a comeback after injury forced his retirement two years ago.


Per the Tehran Times, Esmaeilpour is returning to the sport aged 31.


In addition to winning gold in the men's 61 kilograms freestyle category at Incheon 2014, Esmaeilpour is a three-time Asian champion.


Esmaeilpour was victorious in the 60kg category at the New Delhi 2010 Asian Championships, Astana 2014's 61kg division and then the 65kg division at Doha 2015.


The Iranian has won one additional bronze medal and one additional silver medal at continental level, plus one silver and one bronze at the World Championships.

Russian Olympic champ Abdulrashid Sadulaev on wrestling coronavirus: "We underestimate it

Abdulrashid Sadulaev, for many the best freestyle wrestler in the world right now, revealed that he has had coronavirus disease COVID-19.


Russia's reigning 86kg Olympic champion announced on Instagram to his one million-strong following that he had not taken the virus seriously before contracting it himself.


"I admit like most of my countrymen, I too did not attach importance to the coronavirus," he said.


“We really underestimated the disease, we began to feel its danger and threat only when it knocked on our door."


"I myself transmitted it."


The four-time world champ suffered the sickness and has recovered, and now he's telling Russia and the world to be responsible and listen to advice from medical experts.

Peru NOC pays tribute as wrestler who competed at 2019 Pan American Games dies at 31

The Peruvian Olympic Committee (COP) has announced the death of one of its wrestlers, Jannette Mallqui Peche, less than a year after she competed at the 2019 Pan American Games.


Mallqui Peche, a mother of two, who represented Peru in the women's up to 62 kilograms category at her home Games in Lima in July and August, passed away at the age of 31.


She was found dead in a hostel in the city of Callao within the Lima metropolitan area.
