CSU-Pueblo Head Assistant Coach Mike Roumph passed away Friday in rafting accident

Mike Roumph, the Head Assistant Wrestling Coach for CSU-Pueblo, passed away Friday as result of a rafting accident. He was 53 years old.
Media reports indicate that Roumph was rafting on the Arkansas River in Fremont County and was thrown from the raft.
Roumph has been on the coaching staff with CSU-Pueblo for 12 years. Among his duties has been coaching upper-weight wrestlers, as well as managing a successful fundraising program for the wrestling team. His most important role was as a mentor to several of the young men on the team.
During his tenure, the ThunderWolves have had numerous NCAA Div. II All-Americans, had a national champion in Jesse Hillhouse (125 in 2013), won an RMAC team title and placed in the top 12 of the NCAA Div. II Nationals two times.
According to the Pueblo Chieftain, Roumph earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration in 1990 at CSU-Pueblo (then University of Southern Colorado). He was a leader in the community effort to raise money and bring a number of sports back to CSU-Pueblo, including football, wrestling and women’s track and field in 2008. He was serving as an Executive Vice President of DD Marketing in Pueblo.
