Macey Kilty hasn't been challenged in her first two matches.
BUDAPEST, Hungary – Macey Kilty advanced to her fourth World semifinal in two years on Wednesday, securing a spot in the 68 kg semis at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
Kilty spent minimal time on the mat winning both of her first-session matches with shutout technical falls.
To begin competition, Kilty powered past Alexia Sherland of Canada with a takedown and three turns in the first 30 seconds to lead 8-0. Shortly after, Kilty tacked on another two points for a 10-0 win.
In the quarterfinals, Kilty faced a familiar opponent in Alina Rudnytska from Ukraine, who was a 2019 Junior World bronze medalist. The two wrestled in last year’s Junior World quarterfinals where Macey scored a fall in 50 seconds.
This time, Kilty used four takedowns and a lace to claim a 10-0 win and a spot in the finals.
Tonight in the semifinals, Kilty will face Yingying Wang of China, who was seventh at the 2018 Junior Asian Championships.
Four other U.S. women will learn their repechage fate tonight, including Emily Shilson at 50 kg, Dominique Parrish at 55 kg, Abby Nette at 59 kg and Precious Bell at 76 kg.
2018 Cadet World champion and Youth Olympic Games champion Shilson lost her opening bout to 2017 Junior World champion and two-time Cadet World champion Kika Kagata of Japan, 8-3.
Kagata eventually made it to the semifinals at 50 kg. Tonight, she will take on 2019 Asian Championships bronze medalist Jyoti of India. Should Kagata win, she will pull Shilson into repechage.
At 55 kg, Parrish looked solid in her first session of competition.
She opened her tournament with a 6-0 decision over Rana Rani from India, using three takedowns for the victory.
In her quarterfinals, Parrish faced 2018 U23 World champion and 2018 Junior World champion Saki Igarashi of Japan. It was a rematch from last year’s U23 World first round, where Igarashi won 3-0.
This time, Parrish struck first, drawing a passivity point and then scoring a takedown from an inside trip to carry a 3-0 lead into the break. With about a minute left, Igarashi was able to convert two takedowns for an eventual 4-3 win.
Tonight, Igarashi will face Khrystyna Demko of Ukraine in the semifinals. Should Igarashi win, she will pull Parrish into repechage.
Competing at 59 kg, Parrish earned a first-round victory by forfeit to move onto the quarterfinals. There, she took on Yulia Pisarenka of Belarus.
The score was knotted a 1-1 until late in the second period. Nette appeared to pick up a four-point move on the edge but the call was challenged by Belarus and was ruled a step out in favor of Pisarenka. With only a few seconds left, the Belarussian sealed a 4-1 win over Nette with a takedown.
Tonight, Pisarenka will face 2018 Junior World champion Anastasia Nichita of Moldova in the semifinals. Should Pisarenka win, she will pull Nette into repechage.
Precious Bell made her World debut on Wednesday at 76 kg.
She opened the tournament with a decisive 4-0 victory over 2019 Cadet Asian silver medalist Pooja Pooja from India with two takedowns.
In the quarterfinals, Bell fell two-time Junior World medalist Hui Tsu Chang of Taipei, who put Bell to her back for a pin in 2:07.
Tonight, Chang will take on 2018 U23 World champion and 2019 Senior World bronze medalist Pahlia Pahlia of China. Should Chang win, she will pull Bell into repechage.
The semifinals will take place Wednesday at 5:15 p.m. local time (12:15 p.m. ET) live on Trackwrestling. Follow @USAWrestling on Twitter for live updates.
