by Taylor Miller, USA Wrestling
In 2017, Cohlton Schultz became the first U.S. Cadet wrestler to win a Greco-Roman World title since 1997, when he claimed the top spot on the podium at 100 kg in Athens, Greece.
Not only did Schultz end a dry spell of gold medals at the Cadet Greco World level but he also picked up USA’s first Greco medal of the event since 2013.
A native of Parker, Colo., Schultz opened the 2017 Cadet World Championships with a pair of falls, before pulling out a 1-0 decision in the semifinals against 2017 Cadet Asian champion Seyedmojta Hosseini of Iran.
In the finals, Schultz faced Balint Vatzi of Hungary, who was a 2017 Cadet European champion. Check out the video above to see Schultz’s 3-1 win.
Most recently, Schultz represented the USA at the 2018 Junior and U23 World Championships. Schultz went on to take bronze at the Junior level.
Since his last medal run, Schultz signed with Arizona State to begin his collegiate career.
