Amy Fearnside has been on a tear the past couple months.

In May she claimed a spot on the National Team for the second time in her career. In the match to determine who would earn the No. 3 spot on the National Team at 50 kg, Fearnside defeated rival Erin Golston, 3-2. At last year’s World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, Golston beat Fearnside, 12-2, and went on to make the National Team.

In late June, Fearnisde competed in the Canada Cup up a weight class at 53 kg. She rolled through the tournament picking up 10-0 technical falls over three Canadians, Victoria Seal, Jade Dufour and Amber Wiebe. For her efforts she was given the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestling award.

Last weekend, she added more gold to her trophy case. Fearnside was the sole champion out of the 23 U.S. women competing at the Poland Open. On her run to the title, she defeated competitors from Tunisia, France, Canada and Kazahkstan. Natasha Fox of Canada was the only wrestler in the tournament to score on Fearnside, a match that Fearnside won 10-4.

In the finals Fearnside controlled a one-sided match against Valentina Islamova Brik of Kazahkstan, 7-0. Over her past two tournaments, Fearnside has gone 7-0, outscoring her opponents 62-4.

National Women’s Freestyle Head Coach, Terry Steiner is not surprised by Fearnside’s impressive performances.

“Amy is getting better and better, each time out she is learning a little more and not beating herself. She is a perfectionist and a sticker for details”.

Fearnside made her first National Team in 2017 at 53 kg. She wrestled through the tournament on a torn MCL, an injury she suffered a week prior to the competition.

Fearnside was also a U23 World Team member at 53 kg, placing fifth at the 2017 U23 World Championships. She wrestled collegiately at the University of Jamestown in North Dakota where she was a four-time WCWA All-American. Fearnside currently trains at the U.S Olympic and Paralympic Training Center.
