Olympian Hafizov headlines U.S. Greco-Roman roster at German Grand Prix, August 12-13

A small and talented delegation of four U.S. Senior Greco-Roman wrestlers will compete at the Grand Prix of Germany in Dortmund, Germany, August 12-23.


The team is led by 2020 Olympian and 2023 World Team member Ildar Hafizov, who will compete at 60 kg in this event as part of his preparation for the 2023 Senior World Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. Hafizov will be competing in his fourth Senior World Championships for the United State this year, and has also been an Olympian and Senior World Team member for Uzbekistan.


Another member of the 2023-24 Senior Greco-Roman National Team, Cade Lautt will compete at 97 kg. Lautt, a student-athlete at the University of North Carolina, placed second in the 2023 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament this year, and was also seventh at the 2023 U.S. Open.

Payton Jacobson, who was a member of the 2022-23 Senior National Team, will compete at 82 kg. Jacobson, who has twice placed third at the U.S. Open, has won national titles on the U23 and U20 levels in recent years. He competed at the 2022 U20 World Championships.

Courtney Freeman, a two-time U.S. Open placewinner and 2023 Armed Forces champion, rounds out the U.S. team at 130 kg.


This is a two-day event, with preliminary rounds and semifinals on Saturday, August 12, with repechage and finals on Sunday, August 13. Dortmund is six hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone.
