USA Pan American U15 boys freestyle squad dominates to team title, with nine golds and a silver medal

VILLAHERMOSA, Mexico – The USA Pan American U15 boys freestyle team was dominant on the way to the team title on Saturday, winning nine individual gold medals and one individual silver medal.
Team USA captured the team title, winning all but one match on Saturday. Mexico was second and Peru was third.
The U.S. champions all won round-robin competitions in their weight, except for champion at 38 kg, Kael Lauridsen of Omaha, Neb., who defeated his Mexican opponent to claim the title.
The other individual freestyle champions were Marc-Anthony McGowan of Tampa, Fla. at 41 kg, Clarence Moore of Rancho Cordova, Calif. at 44 kg, Brennan Van Hoecke of Fort Meyers, Fla. at 48 kg, Brock Bobzien of Ramona, Calif. at 52 kg, Drake Buchanan of Greenwood, Ind. at 62 kg, Nicholas Hall of Dover, Del. at 68 kg, Ashton Davis of Cleveland, Tenn. at 75 kg and Quentin Saunders of Wichita, Kan. at 85 kg
Claiming a silver medal, with a strong 3-1 record at 57 kg, was Jadon Skellenger of Meridian, Idaho.
These same 10 boys also competed in Greco-Roman on Thursday, winning the team title with six champions and four silver medalists.
Overall, the boys athletes combined in both styles won 15 gold medals and five silver medals. Six were double champions: Lauridsen, McGowan, Moore, Van Hoecke, Bobzien and Sanders.
The United States was also awarded on Sunday the overall team title, combining the three Olympic disciplines. The girls freestyle team added nine gold and one silver as they won the girls title on Friday. Adding up the three days, Team USA had 24 gold medals and six silver medals.
With the sweep of the team titles at the U15 level, the United States won the Pan American team titles in all styles at all levels this year, including Senior, Junior, Cadet and U15.
The U.S. coaches were Christopher Ramos of Clearwater, Fla. and Roberto Dixon of Marina, Calif. The Medical staff member is Elizabeth Del Re of Allentown, Pa. The Referee is Dwayne Henry of Riverton, Utah.
"Throughout the tournament, the other Pan American teams and fans grew to admire our U.S. wrestlers because of the example they set. Here in Villahermosa, Mexico, our young men and women showed a class of heart and spirit beyond their expectations on and off the mat. The USA swept the Team Championship in all three Olympic disciplines. They showed exceptional values in their desire to win as a team. Most importantly, win or lose, their character expressed they were USA wrestling champions," said Coach Ramos.
