Dieringer, Colon reach Medved finals in Belarus, Megaludis and Campbell to be in bronze medal bouts

MINSK, Belarus – The United States placed four wrestlers into medal matches on Sunday at the Medved International, with the possibility of a fifth wrestler qualifying during repechage rounds on Sunday morning.
Claiming spots in the gold-medal finals were Joe Colon, Fresno, Calif. (Titan Mercury WC/Valley RTC) at 61 kg and Alex Dieringer, Stillwater, Okla. (Titan Mercury WC/Cowboy WC) at 79 kg.
Dieringer was in control the entire semifinal bout against Oleksiy Sherbak of Ukraine emerging with a 10-1 victory. Dieringer led 3-0 at the break on two stepouts and a shot clock violation against Sherbak. In the second period, he got his offense untracked with takedowns and more power, putting the bout away. He will face Dovletmyrat Orazglyjov of Turkemenistan in the final.
In his semifinals, Colon edged American rival Nico Megaludis (Pittsburgh, Pa./Titan Mercury WC/Pittsburgh WC), 4-0, scoring a pair of counter tilts in the first period. There were no takedowns, and Megaludis had a number of leg attacks defended. Colon will battle Zelimkhan Abakarov of Russia in the final on Sunday.
In the other semifinal featuring a USA athlete, 2012 Olympian Kelsey Campbell, Tempe, Ariz. (Sunkist Kids) dropped a 9-1 decision to Battsetseg Altantsetseg of Mongolia, 9-1. In her bronze-medal bout, Campbell will face the winner of a repechage bout between 2017 World bronze medalist Becka Leathers (Chapel Hill, N.C./Titan Mercury WC/Tarheel WC and Dhanda Pooja of India. Leathers lost to Altantsetseg in the first round, and a win against Pooja puts her up against Campbell.
