BUCHAREST, Romania – Three American women’s freestylers were pulled into Thursday’s repechage after competitive efforts on Wednesday at the U23 World Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

Due to a smaller bracket, Kori Bullock is pulled into the bronze-medal match at 76 kg. Dominique Parrish and Alex Glaude will each have to win one bout to move onto the bronze bout.

Bullock, a sophomore at McKendree, opened her first international tournament with a win, defeating Zagardulum Naigalsurenof Mongolia with a first-period pin in 1:29.

In the quarterfinals, the international newcomer lost a close 2-1 decision to Aysegal Ozbege of Turkey. Ozbege, who received a first-round bye, moved onto the finals with a win over U23 World silver medalist Gracelynn Doogan of Canada, pulling Bullock back into repechage.

Tomorrow night, Bullock and Doogan will go head-to-head for 76 kg bronze.

Parrish, competing at 55 kg, will wrestle in tomorrow’s repechage after being pulled back in by 2018 Junior World champion Saki Igarashi of Japan. Parrish lost a close 3-0 first-round bout to the World champion but will get a chance to redeem it tomorrow.

In her first round of repechage, Parrish, who trains out of Simon Fraser University in Canada, will face Chelsey Sicard of Canada. Sicard has two top-five finishes at the Canada Cup.

Should she advance, Parrish will seek bronze against two-time age-group World medalist Elena Brugger of Germany.

At 68 kg, Glaude will get a chance to compete for a medal as she was brought back into repechage by 2018 Junior World bronze medalist Miwa Morikawa of Japan.

Glaude, who collected the first USA win of the entire tournament, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 5-3 decision over 2017 World Military champion and 2015 Junior World bronze Alla Belinska of Ukraine. The McKendree Bearcat then fell to Morikawa in the quarters, 7-2.

Tomorrow, Glaude will face 2012 Cadet World runner-up Natalia Strzalka of Poland in the repechage. Should she win that match, Glaude will move onto the bronze-medal match, where she will battle Khishigmaa Munkhbat of Mongolia.

Eliminated from the tournament on Wednesday was Cody Pfau at 50 kg and Abigail Nette at 59 kg.

At 50 kg, Pfau notched a first-round win over Dominika Szynkowska of Poland with a pin early in the second.

The next match put the American against Namuuntsetseg Tsogt Ochir of Mongolia. Pfau led at the break but Tsogt Ochir came back strong in the second period, rattling off 12-straight points for a 15-4 win. The Mongolian lost in the semifinals to Sokolova of Russia, 8-6, ending Pfau’s 2018 U23 run.

This marked Pfau’s second U23 World Championships appearance.

In her World debut, Abigail Nette showed no fear, taking on Russia Nationals silver medalist Zelfira Sadraddinova. Nette lead 4-2 early, but the match ended in favor of the Russian as she pinned Nette at the 2:27 mark.

Sadraddinova lost in the semifinals to 2017 U23 World champion and two-time Junior World champion Yuzuru Kumano of Japan, bringing Nette’s tournament to a close.

Repechage action begins at 10:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. ET) with the medal matches set for 6 p.m. local time (11 a.m. ET) live on Trackwrestling.com.
