ZAGREB, Croatia – USA’s Cadet World men’s freestyle representative at 92 kg AJ Ferrari advanced to Wednesday night’s bronze-medal match after a strong morning session of repechage action at the 2018 Cadet World Championships in Zagreb, Croatia.
Ferrari, who fell yesterday in the championship bracket to 2018 Cadet Asian champion Alireza Abdollahi of Iran, was pulled back into repechage when the Iranian advanced to the 92 kg finals last night.
In repechage, Ferrari went on to battle the 2018 silver and bronze Cadet Asian medalists.
In his first bout on Wednesday, Ferrari took down Cadet Asian silver medalist Yunis Mafurov of Kazakhstan with a convincing 8-2 win. Ferrari went up 6-0 at the break with a pair of takedowns and never looked back, advancing himself in the repechage.
The second match pitted Ferrari against Cadet Asian bronze winner Monu Dahiya of India. In the second period, Ferrari got his takedowns going, snagging two in the final minute for an 8-1 win.
In tonight’s bronze match, the Texas native will take on 2018 Cadet European silver medalist Johannes Mayer of Germany.
Also wrestling for medals tonight are Matthew Ramos, Chance Lamer and Alex Facundo. Ramos is going for gold at 51 kg, while Lamer and Facundo will wrestle for bronze at 45 kg and 71 kg, respectively.
The medal matches are set to begin at 6 p.m. local time (12 p.m. ET) live on Trackwrestling.com.
