USMC Girls Folkstyle and University Nationals set for Oklahoma City, Okla., March 23-26

The U.S. Marine Corps Girls Folkstyle National Championship and Women’s University National Championships are set for March 23-26. at Cox Convention Center in Oklahoma City, Okla.

The USA Wrestling Girls Folkstyle National Championships welcomes girls born from September 1, 1997 through 2010 and enrolled in grades 9-12.

The Women’s University National Championships will showcase the nation’s top college-age women’s wrestlers.

This event is a Stay and Play event, in efforts to support hotels who are sponsors of the tournament. Discounted entry fee is available when you book your hotel reservation at one of the host hotels. Reservations must be made directly with the hotel, rooms booked through third party hotel booking will not receive the coupon code for the registration discount.

Before registering for the tournament, you will need to make a reservation at a host hotel, then ask the hotel for your registration code this will allow you access to discounted tournament registration. ALL registrations will be cross-checked before you arrive. If you don’t have a valid reservation at a host hotel, you will be responsible for paying the full tournament registration amount. You will not be allowed to wrestle if you have an outstanding balance.

Athletes can register online at TrackWrestling until 9:00 p.m. CST on March 22. The entry fee for participants registering online is $45 per athlete. Invalid hotel reservation codes will result in an additional $40 charge to compete.

Athletes can also register on-site (cash only). The entry fee for on-sight registration is $85 with a qualifying confirmation code from a host hotel, and $120 without a confirmation code. On-site registration will occur only at their designated times.

On Thursday, March 23 Cadets may register from 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. On Friday, March 24 Juniors (folkstyle) may register from 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. and Universities (freestyle) may register from 1:30 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. On Sunday, March 25 Schoolgirls (folkstyle) and Kids Division I and II may register form 6:30 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Registration for all divisions will occur in the Cox Convention Center-Expo Halls.

Last year, wrestlers from 40 states participated in the Girls Folkstyle Nationals, and we expect the tournament to continue to expand.

Prior to the event, USA Wrestling’s Women’s National Team is conducting a training camp for Cadet and Junior age wrestlers. The camp will be opened to any female athlete born from 1996 through 2000.

The camp will run from March 20-23. There are two costs for the camp, the camper cost is $300 while the commuter cost is $150. There is very limited availability for campers. To register for the camp, please contact Emma Randall at erandall@usawrestling.org.

There will also be a Women’s College Wrestling Association (WCWA) recruiting fair on Saturday for girls hoping to wrestle at the collegiate level. As many as 25 colleges will be represented. Last year’s winners include 2016 Olympian Haley Augello and five who have won Junior World medals Erin Golston (NYAC), Kayla-Colleen Miracle (Sunkist Kids), Maya Nelson (Sunkist Kids), Jennifer Page (Titan Mercury), and Victoria Francis (Lindenwood Women’s WC).

Among the 2016 Junior Folkstyle National Champions are Cadet World medalist Macey Kilty (Wisconsin), Ronna Heaton (Arizona), and Gracie Figueroa (California), all who are eligible to return.

Weigh-ins for Cadets will occur Thursday, March 23 at Cox Convention Center-Expo Halls. Athletes in the Cadet division will weigh in at 9:00 a.m. for online registration and 9:30 a.m. for on-site registration.

Weigh-ins for Juniors and University division will occur Friday, March 24 at Cox Convention Center-Expo Halls. Athletes in the Junior division will weigh in 9:00 a.m. for online registration and 9:30 a.m. for on-site. Athletes in the University division will weigh in at 1:00 p.m. for online registration and 1:30 p.m. for on-site registration.

Weigh-ins for Schoolgirl and Kids division I and II will occur Saturday, March 25 at Cox Convention Center-Expo Halls. Athletes in the Schoolgirl division will weigh in at 5:00 p.m. for online registration and 5:30 p.m. for on-site registration. Athletes in the Kids division I and II will weigh-in at 6:00 p.m. for online registration and 6:30 p.m. for on-site registration.

The competition will begin on Thursday, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. with Cadets preliminaries. Competition will continue Friday March 24 at 9:00 a.m. with Cadets semi-finals and finals.

Coaches passes for the event are available for $15. All coaches that wish to gain access to the competition floor to coach athletes must have a current USA Wrestling Coaches Card. All USA Wrestling Coaches Membership Cards must be attained prior to the event.
