Team USA wins World Championship, celebrates on multi-city Victory Tour starting Sept. 9 in Detroit

Victory Tour launches Sept. 9 in Detroit to promote ‘Beat the Streets’ program and wrestling across country
WASHINGTON--The United States Wrestling Foundation, an organization bringing together the sport’s leaders, business elites and wrestling greats to grow wrestling at all levels, announced today the launch of a multicity #EveryoneWrestles Victory Tour beginning Sept. 9 in Detroit to raise money for wrestling programs and promote the sport across the country.
The Victory Tour will feature members of Team USA, who last Saturday won the freestyle team World Championship by defeating the defending Russian team in Paris. It was the first time the USA won the men’s freestyle title in 22 years. In all three Olympic disciplines, Team USA won nine medals, including three golds, three silvers and three bronzes. The women’s freestyle team placed second in the world for the first time since 2003.
“We are incredibly proud of our World Champions,” said Jeff Waters, chairman of the U.S. Wrestling Foundation. “The theme of our victory tour, #EveryoneWrestles, recognizes that everybody wrestles with something in life, and the resiliency and character values learned in the sport are transferrable to experiences on and off the mat. We want to grow wrestling across the country to bring this experience and the opportunities that come with it to more Americans.”
This is only the third time since the championship started in 1951 that Team USA has won the world title. The two earlier wins for the Americans were in 1991 and 1995.
The Victory Tour will feature 2017 gold medalists Kyle Snyder, the youngest-ever U.S. Olympic wrestling champion; Jordan Burroughs, four-time World Champion and 2012 Olympic champion; and Helen Maroulis, the first U.S. woman to win an Olympic wrestling gold medal, alongside heroes of the military, celebrities and entertainers. Other distinguished guests in the tour’s all-star lineup include three-time UFC Champion Randy Couture, Marine Maj. Gen. Paul Kennedy and 1984 Olympic champion Steve Fraser.
