It has been a great year for USA Wrestling in terms of growth of its membership, which is the lifeblood of the organization.

At around 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 14, USA Wrestling’s total membership went past the previous record for a membership year, 252,509, which was set in 2018-19 season. There are still five-plus months in the USA Wrestling membership season, which ends on August 31, 2023. Total membership includes athlete members, as well as Wrestling Leader (coaches and/or officials) members.

The membership record eclipsed is not just the total number of athletes, as USA Wrestling has exceeded other membership records, including (at the time of publication):

• All-time record number of total members – 253,508

• All-time record number of athlete members – 215,414

• All-time record number of Wrestling Leader members – 38,094

• All-time record number of female athlete members – 28,966

This success only occurs due to the hard work and commitment of USA Wrestling’s volunteers, including its state association leaders, who conduct the programs and activities on the regional, state and local levels on a daily basis.

Of note, through 2/28/2023, 50 out of 51 state associations were ahead of 2021-22 membership totals year to date.

"This is phenomenal news and success that so many people can take credit for and be proud of. USA Wrestling provides safety, security and opportunity to our members, and we take great pride in being able to do that with the help of so many club leaders, state leaders and coaches nationwide,” said Tony Black, USA Wrestling Director of State Services.
