Stieber, Snyder hold No. 1 spots as 16 U.S. wrestlers appear in UWW Freestyle World Rankings for April

United World Wrestling has released its April Men’s Freestyle World Rankings, and an impressive 16 U.S. athletes appear in the rankings this month.
Holding their No. 1 spots in the rankings are 2016 World champion Logan Stieber (Columbus, Ohio/Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) at 61 kg/134 lbs. and 2016 Olympic champion Kyle Snyder Kyle Snyder, Woodbine, Md. (Titan Mercury WC/Ohio RTC) at 97 kg/213 lbs.
Neither Stieber nor Snyder competed on the international level in March. Both last competed internationally at the Freestyle World Cup in Iran in February.
Snyder, however, won his second career NCAA Div. I wrestling title for Ohio State during the month. He was also named as a finalist for the AAU James E. Sullivan Award in March, which is presented annually to the nation’s top amateur athlete.
There are seven wrestlers from the United States in the top 10 of their weight classes. Joining Stieber and Snyder in the Top 10 are:
• No. 3 at 74 kg- Jordan Burroughs, Lincoln, Neb. (Sunkist Kids/Nebraska RTC)
• No. 4 at 70 kg- James Green, Lincoln, Neb. (Titan Mercury WC/Nebraska RTC)
• No. 5 at 86 kg- J’Den Cox, Columbia, Mo. (Titan Mercury WC/MWF)
• No. 6 at 86 kg- David Taylor, State College, Pa. (Nittany Lion WC)
• No. 10 at 65 kg- B.J Futrell, Philadelphia, Pa. (Titan Mercury WC/Pennsylvania RTC)
New to the top 10 is Futrell, who was 12th last month, while all six of the other wrestlers were in the top 10 last month. Green moved up one position, Burroughs held his ranking, while Cox and Taylor both dropped one spot. Green won a gold medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Memorial in early March.
There are two new U.S. athletes in the rankings, Tony Nelson (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) who is No. 19 at 125 kg/275 lbs. and Dustin Kilgore (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids), who is No. 20 at 97 kg/213 lbs.
Nelson won a gold medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Memorial in early March, an event where Kilgore competed but did not win a medal. Kilgore won a gold medal at the Dave Schultz Memorial International back in February.
The only other U.S. wrestler in the UWW Freestyle World rankings who competed in March was Alex Dieringer (Stillwater, Okla./Titan Mercury WC) who holds No. 17 at 74 kg/163 lbs. Dieringer won a bronze medal at the Outstanding Ukrainian Memorial.
Three wrestlers from the USA dropped out of the Top 20 rankings, Kyle Dake (Ithaca, N.Y./Titan Mercury WC) at 74 kg/163 lbs., Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley WC) at 125 kg/275 lbs. and Richard Perry, Philadelphia, Pa. (New York AC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. Last month, Dake was No. 18, Rey was No. 19 and Perry was No. 20.
