Team Sweden beats NMU/OTC Greco-Roman team in dual meet, 18-13

Three U.S. wrestlers won matches, Dalton Roberts, Andrew Ibarra and Jamal Dearmond, the top efforts in an 18-13 loss to Team Sweden in a dual meet on Thursday night in Sweden.


The U.S. team included athletes from the Northern Michigan U.S. Olympic Training Site in Michigan, as well as the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado.


Jamal Dearmond (Sacramento, Calif./NMU-OTS) scored a fall for Team USA over Islam Katsijev.


2015 Junior World Team member Dalton Roberts( Fowlerville, Mich./NMU-OTS) hit two high amplitude throws to get the fans going and came away with a 12-8 win over Erik Persson.


Andrew Ibarra (Santa Maria, Calif./NMU-OTS) grinded out a 3-0 win over Lukas Ahlgran.


"What a great experience for the wrestlers. They competed tough and will carry it over into the tournament Saturday and Sunday,” said NMU-OTS Head Coach Rob Hermann.


The USA team will compete in Greco-Roman at the Malar Cup in Vasteras, Sweden, October 31-November 1.


“Team USA having a great experience in Europe, wrestling well in a dual meet in Sweden before traveling to the Malar Cup tournament. This is exactly the kind of training the U.S. athletes need to continue to grow and improve in order to reach our goals of being the best wrestling nation in the world,” said National Greco-Roman Coach Matt Lindland.
