U.S. teams ready for Pan American Championships in Mexico City, Mexico, July 15-17

Olympic champion and two-time World champion Jordan Burroughs, shown at the 2013 World Championships, leads the USA freestyle team at the Pan American Championships in Mexico.


The United States has sent teams that are a mix of experience and youth to compete in the 2014 Pan American Senior Wrestling Championships in Mexico City, Mexico, July 15-17.


The Pan American Championships is the annual wrestling championships featuring nations from North America, Central America and South America.


The competition begins Tuesday, July 15 with Greco-Roman action, followed by women’s freestyle on Wednesday, July 16 and men’s freestyle on Thursday, July 17.


The U.S. Greco-Roman team will feature three members of the 2014 U.S. Greco-Roman World Team: Spenser Mango (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 59 kg/130 lbs., Andy Bisek (Colorado Springs, Colo./Minnesota Storm) at 75 kg/165 lbs. and Caylor Williams (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 98 kg/216 lbs. Mango is a two-time Olympian and five-time World Team member, while Bisek has made three World Teams and Williams two.


2012 Olympian Ellis Coleman (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) will compete at 71 kg/156.5 lbs. He is joined by 2014 U.S. World Team Trials runners-up Bryce Saddoris (Camp LeJeune, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) at 66 kg/145.5 lbs. and Jon Anderson (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP) at 80 kg/176 lbs. Rounding out the team are past World Team member Jake Fisher (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 85 kg/187 lbs. as well as Nikola Bogojevich (Superior, Wis./Minnesota Storm) at 130 kg/286.5 lbs.


The young U.S. women’s team is loaded with college stars, along with a top graduating high school star. Leading the U.S. team is two-time Junior World champion Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach, Calif./Sunkist Kids) at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. Anthony was fifth at the 2013 World Championships, competing up a weight. She completed her college career this spring at Simon Fraser.


Among the college stars is King University’s Julia Salata, Canton, Ill. (New York AC/King Univ.) at 69 kg/152 lbs. Salata, a 2014 WCWA national champion, was World Team Trials runner-up this year competing up at 75 kg/165 lbs. Another King Univ. WCWA national champion on the roster is Haley Augello, Lockport, Ill. (New York AC/King Univ.) at 53 kg/116.5 lbs. Augello is a past Cadet World champion.


Other college stars are Menlo College’s Cady Chessin (Los Gatos, Calif./Menlo College) at 55 kg/121 lbs., Missouri Baptist’s Cheyenne Youngblood (Temecula, Calif./Missouri Baptist) at 60 kg/132 lbs., Jamestown’s Shai Mason (Gardenia, Calif./Titan Mercury WC) at 63 kg/138.75 lbs. and Lindenwood’s Victoria Francis, Litchfield, Ill. (Titan Mercury WC) at 75 kg/165 lbs. The graduated high school star is Kayla Miracle (Campbellsville, Ky./Sunkist Kids) at 58 kg/128 lbs., who attends Campbellsville in the fall.


Men’s freestyle wraps it up, led by superstar Jordan Burroughs (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids) at 74 kg/163 lbs., an Olympic and two-time World champion.


2014 U.S. Freestyle National Team members on the team Frank Molinaro (State College, Pa. (Nittany Lion WC) at 65 kg/143 lbs. and Zach Rey (Bethlehem, Pa./Lehigh Valley AC) at 125 kg/275 lbs. Rey was second in the 2014 World Team Trials, while Molinaro placed true third. Rey is a returning Pan American Championships champion, after winning in 2013 in Panama City, Panama.


Two Pan American team members were fourth at the 2014 World Team Trials, Clayton Foster (Laramie, Wyo. (GRIT Athletics/Cowboy WC) at 86 kg/189 lbs. and Deron Winn (Ames, Iowa/Titan Mercury WC) at 97 kg/213 lbs. Rounding out the American team are Zach Sanders (Minneapolis, Minn./Minnesota Storm) at 57 kg/125.5 lbs., Andrew Hochstrasser (Boise, Idaho/Titan Mercury WC) at 61 kg/134 lbs. and Hunter Stieber (Norwalk, Ohio/New York AC/Ohio RTC) at 70 kg/154 lbs.
