MEDELLIN, Colombia – The Schoolgirl freestyle team won two gold and three bronze on day two of the UWW Schoolboy/girl Pan-American Championships on Saturday.
Team USA finished in third with 56 points, behind Colombia and Venezuela.
"We had some hard wrestling today. I think the girls were exposed to situations & positions that will be valuable to learn from as they move forward,” Coach Katherine Fulp-Allen said. “I'm proud of their performances and how they handled themselves. They were a very mature group. These girls are a strong representation of what our future for women's wrestling will be."
Sterling Dias of Las Vegas, Nev., struck gold at 37 kg/81.5 lbs. with a four-win day.
Also standing atop the podium was Sage Mortimer of Mapleton, Utah, who picked up three wins en route to gold at 44 kg/88 lbs.
Three wrestlers gave bronze-medal performances including Kylie Welker (44 kg/96.8 lbs.), Camille Fournier (48 kg/105.5 lbs.) and Tristan Kelly (62 kg/136.5 lbs.).
