Olympian Haley Augello, shown at 2016 U.S. Open, will be competing in her first Olympic Games in Rio de Janiero, Brazil.
All four U.S. Olympians in women’s freestyle are among the athletes who appear in the UWW World women’s freestyle rankings for July. Overall, there are eight American women in this month’s rankings.
Olympians Adeline Gray (Colorado Springs, Colo./New York AC/OTC) and Helen Maroulis (Rockville, Md./Sunkist Kids) retained their No. 1 World rankings. Both have been unbeaten since the summer of 2014.
Gray, who is tops at 75 kg/165 lbs., has won the last two World Championship gold medals at this weight class.
Maroulis remains ranked No. 1 in a non-Olympic weight class, 55 kg/121 lbs., where she won a 2015 World gold medal. She has dropped to 53 kg/116.5 lbs., where she won the U.S. Olympic Trials and qualified her weight class for Rio with a victory at the 1st World Olympic Qualifier in Mongolia.
Another U.S. Olympian who is ranked at a different weight class than where she will compete in Rio is Elena Pirozhkova (Colorado Springs, Colo./Titan Mercury WC), who holds No. 12 at 69 kg/152 lbs. Pirozhkova competed at that weight class at the 2015 World Championships, but moved down to 63 kg/138.75 lbs. where she made her second U.S. Olympic Team. Most recently, Pirozhkova placed fifth at 63 kg at the Poland Open in June.
The fourth U.S. Olympian, Haley Augello (Lockport, Ill./New York AC/OTC) comes in at No. 16 at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. She has not competed since taking a silver medal at the 1st World Olympic Qualifier in Mongolia to qualify her weight for Rio.
2016 U.S. Olympic Team Trials champion Tamyra Mensah (Katy, Texas/Titan Mercury WC/OTC) holds No. 18 at 69 kg/152 lbs. Mensah won a bronze medal at the Canada Cup in June.
2015 World bronze medalist Leigh Jaynes-Provisor (Colorado Springs, Colo./U.S. Army WCAP/OTC) remains in the rankings at non-Olympic 60 kg/132 lbs.
Other Americans in the rankings are Sarah Hildebrandt (Granger, Ind./New York AC/OTC), who is No. 12 at 55 kg/121 lbs. and Victoria Anthony (Huntington Beach Calif./Sunkist Kids), who holds No. 17 at 48 kg/105.5 lbs. Anthony won a gold medal at the Canada Cup in June.
There will be a World Championships for the non-Olympic weight classes in Budapest, Hungary in December.
