Macey Kilty (Stratford, Wis./Team Wisconsin) has been selected as TheMat.com Athlete of the Week on July 24, 2017.

Kilty stole the show at the U.S. Marine Corps Cadet and Junior Nationals held in Fargo, N.D., last week by winning women’s freestyle championships in both the Cadet and Junior Divisions, earning the Outstanding Wrestler award for each tournament.

Starting her week in the Cadet Nationals 127-pound bracket, Kilty finished all five of her opponents by either technical fall or pin, all the while not surrendering a single point. In the championship bout, Kilty ran up a 10-0 victory over her Wisconsin teammate Ashton Cadman to take home her first stop sign of the week.

She then moved up to the Junior division where she won perhaps the deepest bracket of the tournament. Kilty tallied six victories at 127 pounds on her way to the Junior title. The competition heated up for Kilty in the later stages. She notched a gritty 9-8 win over defending champion Brenda Reyna of Washington in the semifinals, followed by a 4-1 decision over Cadet World champion Ronna Heaton of South Dakota to cap it off.

Across her 11 contested bouts in Fargo, Kilty won five matches by technical fall and three by pin. She now owns four All-American honors from the Women’s Nationals the past two years, two Cadet championships, one Junior title and third-place finish in the Junior division.

As she entered Fargo, Kilty was fresh off a dominating gold-medal performance at the Cadet Pan American Championships held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She defeated three international foes by technical fall, without giving up a point, to claim the Pan American crown.

Last summer, Kilty secured a bronze medal at the Cadet World Championships held in Tbilisi, Georgia. She followed that up with a gold medal from the UWW Cadet Klippan Lady Open last February.

On the folkstyle side, Kilty has doubled up in the Cadet and Junior divisions at the USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals the past two years. As a freshman at Stratford High School in 2016, Kilty finished as runner-up at the Division III Wisconsin State Championships at 106 pounds competing against men.

Each week USA Wrestling will select an Athlete of the Week based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling from youth programs through the Senior level.

To nominate a wrestler for this honor please send the athlete’s name, wrestling program and weekly and career accomplishments to Richard Immel at rimmel@usawrestling.org.
