Brent Metcalf named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week

Brent Metcalf (Iowa City, Iowa/New York AC) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Metcalf went 4-0 to lead the U.S. to a second-place finish at the World Cup this past weekend at the Forum in Los Angeles.
He outscored his four opponents by a combined 32-8 margin at 65 kg/143 lbs.
Metcalf opened by downing Cuba’s Franklin Maren Castillo 7-2 and Russia’s Akhmed Chakaev 14-3 on the first day of competition.
He followed by downing a pair of two-time World medalists on the second day. He beat two-time World bronze medalist
Mandakhnaran Ganzorig of Mongolia 8-2. He then defeated World silver and bronze medalist Masmoud Esmailpour of Iran 3-1.
Metcalf is a three-time U.S. World Team member.
Metcalf is a three-time World Team member who captured a pair of NCAA titles and a Hodge Trophy for the University of Iowa.
