Dominique Bradley (Blue Springs, Mo./Sunkist Kids) has been named TheMat.com Wrestler of the Week for Aug. 4-10.
Each week, TheMat.com will select an Athlete of the Week, based upon performance within wrestling for that week. The selection committee will consider any level of wrestling, from youth programs through the Senior level.
Bradley won a gold medal at 120 kg/264.5 lbs. in freestyle wrestling at the Junior World Championshps in Ankara, Turkey, August 9.
Bradley had a dominant performance, winning four matches on the way to the title. In the gold-medal finals, Bradley defeated Giorgi Sakandelidze of Georgia, 2-0, 4-0.
He won three preliminary matches to reach the gold-medal finals. opened the tournament with a victory over Bazarboy Utambetov of Uzbekistan, 6-0, 2-0. In the second round, he stopped Mikhail Gazayev of Azerbaijan, 2-0, 5-0. His semifinal victory was over Maradyn Kushkhov of Ukraine, 2-2, 1-0.
He was one of three U.S. Freestyle World Team members to win a medal, and helped lead the United States to a fourth place finish in the team standings.
The Univ. of Missouri student is having a strong freestyle season this year. Bradley was third at the U.S. Senior World Team Trials, and was fourth in the U.S. Senior Nationals. He also won the FILA Junior World Team Trials and the FILA Junior Nationals.
