2025 U20 World Team Trials Greco-Roman champions.
GENEVA, Ohio – Three age-group World medalists—Isaiah Cortez, Otto Black and Joel Adams—captain a talented lineup on the newly set U20 U.S. World Team in Greco-Roman.
SPIRE Academy played host to the 2025 U20 World Team Trials in the Greco-Roman division on Friday, with 10 individual champions cementing spots on the Team USA squad that will compete at the 2025 U20 World Championships in Sofia, Bulgaria, this August.
Cortez and Black both collected a silver medal at last year’s U20 Worlds held in Pontevedra, Spain. The pair looked sharp throughout the day, each going through the challenge tournament bracket before securing best-of-three series wins against tough opponents.
At 60 kg, U20 Nationals champion Manuel Saldate did not enter the field, leaving the door open for Cortez, who posted four technical fall wins and outscored his opponents a combined 35-2. He scored a pair of 8-0 techs in the challenge tournament to set up a championship series matchup against U20 Nationals runner-up Treygen Morin. Cortez topped Morin convincingly, 10-2 and 9-0.
It was a 5-0 day for the always-exciting Black at 67 kg. He collected three technical falls and a pair of decisions on his way to the title. Black was pushed by U20 Nationals champion Pierson Manville in the best-of-three finals, but ultimately emerged in straight sets, 10-1 and 7-5.
Adams navigated to his fourth-straight age-group World Team berth, and third-straight at the U20 level, with an impressive showing at 72 kg. He was a U17 World champion in 2022 before jumping up to the U20 division.
In a similar situation to Cortez, Adams did not have to face the U20 Nationals champion in the best-of-three finals. Wyatt Medlin, who was supposed to sit out to the finals, did not compete on Friday, giving Adams a clear path to the title. Adams went 4-0 on the day with three technical falls, defeating U20 Nationals runner-up Jude Randall in the championship series, 5-1 and 11-0.
Also qualifying for his fourth-straight age-group World Team was 82 kg champion Arvin Khosravy. He was on the U17 World Team in 2022 and 2023, and the U20 World Team last year. 97 kg champion Soren Herzog rounds out this list of 2024 U20 World Team members who qualified in 2025. Both Khosravy and Herzog are current service academy cadets, Khosravy at Army West Point and Herzog at Air Force Academy.
2023 U20 World Team member Landon Drury adds to the experienced depth of this year’s U20 World Team. Drury, who earned the 63 kg title with a pair of decisions over Carter Nogle, was fifth at the 2023 U20 Worlds.
Five U20 Nationals champions from the U.S. Open Champions held in Las Vegas, Nev., in April, punched through to the U20 World Team—Drury, Caleb Noble at 55 kg, Leister Bowling IV at 77 kg, Nick Nosler at 87 kg and Shilo Jones at 130 kg.
Scores from the best-of-three championship series and the challenge tournament placement matches can be found below. Complete brackets and match-by-match results can are available on USA Bracketing.
