Six Senior Women’s National Team members among group set to compete at Grand Prix of Spain, July 7-8

The U.S. will send a large delegation in women’s freestyle and two Greco-Roman wrestlers to the Grand Prix of Spain in Madrid on July 7-8. Among the 23 wrestlers who will compete are six Senior National Team members and eight wrestlers with international competitive experience.

Six Senior National Team members are slated to compete at the Grand Prix of Spain. Audrey Jimenez, competing at 50 kg, has experience in international competitions and has earned a U17 bronze and U20 silver medal.

At 50 kg, Erin Golston, who won true-third at Final X to make the Senior Women’s National Team, will represent Team USA. Golston is a 2019 Pan American runner-up and two-time U20 World bronze medalist.
Katie Gomez, set to compete at 53 kg, is a Senior National Team member and 2023 Final X finalist. Gomez was a 2021 U17 World champion and earned a bronze medal at the 2022 U20 World Championships.
Alisha Howk, a 2023 Senior National Team member and Final X finalist, was a bronze medalist at the 2022 U23 World Championships. She earned a silver medal at the 2022 Grand Prix of Spain.
Xochitl Mota-Pettis is slated to compete at 59 kg at the event. Mota-Pettis is a 2023 Pan American champion and 2023 Senior National Team member.
Adaugo Nwachukwu is on the 2023 Senior National Team, a Final X finalist, 2023 US Open champion and earned a bronze medal at the 2022 U20 World Championships.

Additional athletes with international experience include: 2021 U20 Pan American champion Amani Jones, 2022 U20 World silver medalist Sofia Macaluso, 2021 U17 Pan American silver medalist Alexis Janiak, 2021 U23 World Team member Ashlynn Ortega, 2021 U17 Pan American silver medalist Madeline Kubicki, 2022 U20 Pan American champion Skyler Hattendorf, 2021 U20 Pan American champion Katerina Lange and 2021 U17 Pan American champion Rose Cassioppi.

2023 Women’s Nationals champions Isabella Mir, Kaylynn Albrecht, Montana Delawder and Ashley Lekas and North Carolina wrestling’s Marisol Nugent, round out the lineup for Team USA in Spain.

Two athletes are set to compete in the Greco-Roman division in Shaun Heist and Courtney Denzel Freeman. Freeman earned a bronze at the 2022 Bill Farrell Memorial International.

Each discipline will be completed in one day. Greco-Roman matches will start on Friday, July 7 at 10 a.m. local time. Women’s freestyle matches will start on Saturday, July 8 at 10 a.m. local time. Medal matches will begin at 4 p.m. on both days.

Local time in Madrid, Spain, is six hours ahead of the U.S. Eastern time zone.
