OAKS, Pa. – Winning their preliminary pools on the first day of Greco-Roman at the 14U National Duals in Greco-Roman were Oklahoma Blue (Pool A), Pennsylvania Blue (Pool B), New Jersey (Pool C) and Ohio (Pool D).

New Jersey, the returning champion team at the 14U National Duals, defeated Michigan, 47-29, in the Pool C finals. New Jersey had three technical falls and two pins in the pool finals, with falls coming from Vedwin Nivas (136) and August Moser (250). New Jersey’s closest match came in the very first round, a tight 38-37 win over Washington (which ultimately placed second).

Oklahoma Blue edged Illinois, 37-35 in their pool finals. Oklahoma Blue took a strong lead with victories in four of five matches late: Paden Pearson (250), Rylan Sandoval (71), Bostik Marple (77) and Cale Richardson (87). Illinois won the final two bouts by technical fall, but it was not enough.

Pennsylvania Blue had a strong 50-28 pool finals victory over Wisconsin. Pennsylvania Blue closed the door with five straight wins late in the dual from Kendahl Hoare (250), Leo Murillo (71), Kooper Deputy (77), Arav Pandey (83) and Keegan Bassett (87).

Ohio ran to a 47-27 victory in the Pool D finals. Ohio won six of the last eight matches to finish off the win. Seven of Ohio’s wins in the finals were by technical fall: Weston Borgers (106), Urijah Lopez (110), Tommy Rowlands (125), Xander Webber (71), Bradley Bauman (83), Tommy Wurster (87) and Conner Whitely (97).

The top two teams in each pool advanced to the Gold/Silver pool, which will determine the top eight teams in the tournament. Claiming second place in their pools were Illinois (Pool A), Wisconsin (Pool B), Washington (Pool C) and Iowa (Pool D). Three of the pools needed a True Second Place match to determine who would advance into the Gold/Silver Pool.

Two of the True Second Place matches ended up being determined by criteria. Illinois and Minnesota Blue finished at 41-41 in Pool A, with Illinois getting the tie-breaker. In Pool D, Iowa and Pennsylvania Red finished with a 40-40 tie, with criteria going to Iowa. Hendrix Schwab of Iowa won the final bout of the dual at 102 pounds to secure the tie and force the tiebreaker. The other True Second dual meet was not close, as Washington handled Michigan, 54-24.

Illinois was No. 1 in the pre-ranking seeds, with Pennsylvania Blue at No. 2, with both advancing into the Gold/Silver Pool. The next five teams in the pre-ranking seeds did not advance to the Gold/Silver Pool.

There was one round of Color Pool competition on Thursday night. After the preliminary pools, the field was broken down into the Gold/Silver, Bronze/Copper, Red/Blue, Green and Yellow Pools. The Greco-Roman competition completes on Friday, with the conclusion of the Color Pools starting at 8:00 a.m. ET, followed by the Finals at 2:30 p.m.
