STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – The Pennsylvania-based Steller Trained RanCor Battalion took 10-of-15 bouts from Compound/RPW to claim the Elite Club crown at the 2023 Ultimate Club Duals – Boys Spring Freestyle Championships.

Brayden Sigle and Adam Waters led the way in Steller Trained RanCor Battalion’s 45-21 victory at the Nittany Valley Sports Centre. Both men earned vital pins for their squad, Sigle at 45 kg and Waters at 77 kg. Steller Trained RanCor Battalion ended the event as the only undefeated team boasting a flawless 7-0 record.

The championship contest was not lacking for star power with multiple age-group World medalists taking center stage, and nearly half the participants garnering at least one All-America honor from the USA Wrestling Freestyle and Greco-Roman Nationals in Fargo, N.D. Not to mention, two wrestlers currently hold No. 1 spots in the FloWrestling national high school rankings.

The biggest win of the dual went to Compound/RPW’s Louis Gill, who upset the top-ranked 106-pounder, Keanu Dillard, 9-6, at 54 kg. Gill, a N.C. State commit, is currently ranked No. 4 at 133 pounds.

2021 Cadet World champion and No. 1 ranked 120-pounder Bo Bassett, and 2022 U17 World silver medalist Jax Forrest, carried the momentum for Compound/RPW following Gill’s momentous win. Both Bassett and Forrest picked up technical falls in the finals, giving the duo 12 bonus point victories in 13 matches wrestled on the weekend.

Two-time Pennsylvania state champion Sonny Sasso emerged on the positive side of a top-10 national showdown for Steller Trained RanCor Battalion, picking up a dynamic 15-5 technical fall against Oklahoma state champion Payton Thomas at 89 kg.

Other big winners for the Elite Club champions were top-five grapplers Kollin Rath at 66 kg and Collin Gaj at 69 kg. Rath, a national runner-up in 16U freestyle, outlasted Devon Magro, 11-8. Gaj, also a 16U freestyle All-American, took out Trent Hoover by technical fall, 10-0.

The 51 kg showdown featured a pair of 2022 Fargo champions. 16U Greco-Roman champion Lincoln Sledzianowski got the better of Junior freestyle champion Tyler Garvin in a nail-biting 6-6 criteria contest.

Third place in the Elite Club division went to Edge Black, who defeated Meatballs in a 33-31 classic for bronze. Felix Wrestling Academy, Doughboy, LAW and KD6 round out the top eight teams.

A champion was also crowned in the Elite K-8 division as Team Dynasty topped Mat Assassins, 45-33, to end with a 7-0 record and top prize.
