Miranda, Perez and Farmer pulled into repechage after first day of Grand Prix Zagreb Open

ZAGREB, Croatia --- Three Americans will look to wrestle back for bronze at the 2022 Grand Prix Zagreb Open as the first day of competition wrapped up Saturday. Randon Miranda (60 kg), Robert Perez (67 kg) and Tanner Farmer (130 kg) will all have repechage matches tomorrow.
Miranda lost to Ukraine’s Viktor Petryk in his first match, but Petryk made the finals to pull Miranda back into the tournament. Miranda will face Serbia’s Sebastijan Kolompar in his repechage match on Sunday morning.
Perez dropped his first bout to Norway’s Morten Thoresen, but will have a chance to wrestle back for a bronze medal since Thoresen made the finals. Perez will wrestle Turkey’s Kadir Kamal, a 2021 U23 bronze medalist.
Farmer lost a 5-1 match to Turkey’s Fatih Bozkurt to begin the tournament. With Bozkurt making the finals, Farmer is back in the tournament and will face Germany’s Franz Rihter in his repechage bout.
At 77 kg, RaVaughn Perkins beat American teammate Burke Paddock in the first match of the tournament. Perkins would go on to wrestle Tsimur Berdyieu, who won a 9-0 match. Berdyieu lost in the semifinals, officially eliminating both American competitors at 77 kg.
Diego Romero (60 kg) and Cohlton Schultz (130 kg) also competed for the U.S., dropping their first matches. Neither of their opponents made the finals, which eliminated them from the tournament.
Sunday’s repechage matches begin at 10:30 a.m. local time in Croatia, which is six hours ahead of U.S. eastern time. Please note the results below are from the Zagreb Open’s official Facebook page.
