The U15 Pan American Team Trials are set for Boys Town High School in Boys Town, Neb., August 5-6. This event will determine the U.S. team for the 2022 Pan American U15 Championships in Apartado, Colombia, November 4-6.

The champions in the girls freestyle competition will earn the spot on the U.S. U15 Pan American team at their weight class. The women’s competition will be held over two days, with five weight classes held on Friday, August 5 (33 kg, 36 kg, 39 kg, 42 kg and 46 kg) and the other five weight classes held on Saturday, August 6 (50 kg, 54 kg, 58 kg, 62 kg, 66 kg).

U15 Pan American Team Procedures – Women’s Freestyle

The boys competition in Greco-Roman is set for Friday, August 5, with the boys freestyle competition on Saturday, August 6.

The boys who qualify for the U.S. U15 Pan American team will be determined by the highest point value (of both styles combined) from the tournament. Based upon the points earned, as set in the U15 Pan American Team Procedures, a team member is determined. The boy who makes the team in each weight class will wrestle both freestyle and Greco-Roman at the competition in Colombia.

U15 Pan American Team Procedures – Men’s Freestyle and Greco-Roman

Athletes who compete in this event had to qualify, based upon performance at specific competitions.

For the girls, the top eight from the 2022 U15 Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas, plus the top eight from the 2022 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., and the top three from the 2022 14U Nationals in Fort Worth, Texas are eligible.

For the boys, the top eight in either style from the 2022 U15 Nationals in Las Vegas, Nev. can enter, plus the top eight in either style from the 2022 16U Nationals in Fargo, N.D., and the top three in either style from the 2021 and 2022 Kids Nationals may enter.

With that said, there are numerous 2022 National champions from either the 14U, U15 or 16U Nationals entered in the tournament at this time.

In the girls tournament, four athletes who won two national titles this year are entered. They include Brynn Engel of Wisconsin at 33 kg (14U and U15), Morgan Turner of Illinois at 42 kg (14U and U15), Taina Fernandez of Maryland at 58 kg (14U and U15) and Sarah Henckel of Connecticut at 66 kg (U15 and 16U).

In boys freestyle, Dreshaun Ross of Iowa at 85 kg is the only wrestler to win two national freestyle titles this year, at U15 and 16U levels.

In Greco-Roman, the wrestlers who won two national titles this year include Liam Collins of Minnesota at 38 kg (14U and U15), Lincoln Sledzianowski of Florida at 44 kg (U15 and 16U) and Thomas Verrette of Colorado at 57 kg (U15 and 16U).

The competition will be broadcast live on FloWrestling.
