CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – USA Wrestling Folkstyle Nationals concluded today with the 14U, 12U, and 10U age divisions. The 8U brackets were wrapped up last night in the McLeod Center. 570 wrestlers from across the country participated in these age divisions. This morning's session held Championship bouts, consolation semifinals, and placing matches for each division.

Championship matches for 14U were held on the same main stage as the Recruiting Showcase division. 12U and 10U finals, as well as consolations and placing matches occurred on other mats around the arena. True second matches were wrestled in weights where the 2nd and 3rd place wrestlers had not squared off during the tournament.

The champions of each division will accomplish the first leg required to become a coveted Triple Crown winner, which is given annually to athletes who win USA Wrestling folkstyle, Greco-Roman and freestyle national titles at their age level in the same year. In the youth divisions, all three reigning Triple Crown winners made it to the finals of the competition.

In 14U at 136 pounds, Aaron Stewart of Toss Em Up Wrestling Academy in Illinois made the finals in dominant fashion with two pins and a technical fall. He took on Lucas Boe of Indiana in the championship. There were lots of solid flurries in a scoreless first period, but Stewart managed four takedowns in the second period to take control of the match. He would end up winning by a 14-7 decision.

Casen Becker of Black Fox Wrestling Academy is also a 2021 Triple Crown winner. He qualified for the finals at 70 pounds in 12U and went against Ty Martin of Immortal Athletics WC for the top spot of the tournament. Martin used two third period takedowns to separate himself and upended the reigning Triple Crown winner by a score of 11-5.

The third and final former Triple Crown winner Jaden Washington of Harvey Twisters secured another folkstyle National Championship after receiving a forfeit in the 78-pound championship bout at 12U. Washington won by fall and two decisions enroute to his finals appearance. Lucas Davis of Threestyle Wrestling of Oklahoma is who would have been his finals opponent.

There were also some wrestlers looking to defend their folkstyle national crown from the 2021 season. In total, five reigning champions were able to repeat in back to back years.

Zayne Wieneke of Lawrence Elite WC won last year’s 8U 45 pound bracket. In this year's tournament he competed at 10U 49 pounds, and took out Auben Sweeting of Iowa in two straight matches to defend his title.

Easton Kammerud of Sarbacker Wrestling Academy was back in the finals of the 12U 108 division. He won the exact same division in 2021. He made quick work of Rosco Lewis of Prodigy Wrestling in this one, earning a fall in 37 seconds to win back to back folkstyle championships.

Last year’s 14U 92-pound champion Rocco Cassioppi of Hononegah WC took on Maximus Hay of Ringers WC in this year's final at 102 pounds in 14U. After giving up the first takedown of the match, Cassioppi managed one of his own in the second period, and an escape in the third gave him a 4-3 victory.

Rocco’s brother and reigning 14U 87 pound champion Bruno Cassioppi of Hononegah WC also became a repeat champion with a controlling major decision win over Gage Spurgeon of Hammer Time Wrestling Academy at 106 pounds in 14U. Cassioppi had three takedowns and a reversal enroute to a final score of 11-3.

Brody Sendele of Hononegah Wrestling Club won the 14U 110 bracket in 2021. Up at 130 this year, he battled Jacob Kidder of Ringer WC for another title. Sendele scored early and often in this one. He jumped out to an early lead with four first period takedowns, and even though Kidder managed a feet to back move in the third for four points, Sendele would win by a major decision score of 23-10.

UNI Head Coach Doug Schwab’s son, Hayden Schwab of Immortal Athletics Wrestling Club, won the 14U 83 division by pinning every opponent he faced. His longest match of the weekend was 4:51 in the semifinals. He earned Outstanding Wrestler of the 14U division.

Isaiah Eide of Pinnacle WC earned the title at 12U 92 pounds and received the Outstanding Wrestler award for his age group. Eide dominated the field and managed to make it through the entire tournament with only giving up one point. He won by fall, tech fall, major decision, and decision over the course of his weekend.

Beckett Moyer of Mahaska Elite WC won the 10U 59 pound bracket in impressive fashion with only one match not ending in a fall. He went 4-0 this weekend with three falls and one overtime decision on his way to earning the Outstanding Wrestler award for the 10U division.

All 8U champions were crowned last night with 62-pounder Eli Armstrong of Team Idaho WC earning the Outstanding Wrestler award for the age division. He won by a 15-1 major decision, a 6-1 decision, and an 8-3 decision before earning a fall to finish off his tournament.

The Masters competition was also completed on Saturday, with champions determined in six age divisions. There were four repeat champions: James Medeiros of California (100 kg, Div. B), Rudy James of the Gopher WC - RTC (88 kg, Div. C), Travis Wiuff of Minnesota (130 kg, Div. C) and Chad Otterness of Mat Rats WC (70 kg, Div. D)
