CEDAR FALLS, Iowa - After two intense days of wrestling, champions and All-Americans have been awarded in the 16U and Junior divisions. All-American awards are given to the top eight at each weight. This tournament is typically viewed as the premier folkstyle event of the year.

Three Triple Crown winners from last year punched their ticket to the finals after the semifinals this morning, and were looking to add another Folkstyle National Championship to their resumes.

At 16U 88 pounds, Caleb Nobel of Toss Em Up Wrestling Academy tangled with Wyatt Lees of Team Donahoe Wrestling Club. Nobel won the Triple Crown at 14U in 2021, however Lees ended up teching the returning Triple Crown winner 16-0.

Up one weight in the same age group at 94 pounds is Nobel’s Toss Em Up Wrestling Academy teammate Domenic Munaretto. He was also a 14U Triple Crown winner last year. He wrestled Cristian Haslem of Team Donahoe Wrestling Club for the top spot on the podium, and ended up earning the fall in 1:10.

Bradley Rodriguez-Little of MN Elite Wrestling Club won a 14U Triple Crown last year. In order to take the first step in doing it again this weekend, he would have to take out Logan O’Connor of South Dakota. O’Connor put up a fight, but Rodriguez-Little earned an 8-5 decision at 152 pounds.

Nevada state champion Melvin Whitehead of Gold Rush Wrestling decided that one National Tournament wasn’t enough for him. He entered the 195-pound bracket in both the 16U and Showcase divisions and then made the finals in each. He lost in the finals of the Showcase, however in the 16U, he took out Cole Carter of Ironclad Wrestling Club by a 10-0 major decision.

Chase Van Hoven of Legacy Wrestling was looking to repeat as a Folkstyle National Champion. He won last year and battled Manuel Saldate of Gold Rush Wrestling. Saldate had other plans though, as he earned the victory over Van Hoven by fall at the 4:46 mark at 120 pounds in 16U.

Other champs in the 16U division included Alex Rozas (100), Chris Huerta (106), Kellen Wolbert (113), Cale Seaton (126), Alex Braun (132), Kane Naaktgeboren (138), Leo Contino (145), Anthony Rinehart (160), Adrien Reyes (170), De`Alcapon Veazy (182), Kai Calcutt (220) and Wyatt Schmitt (285).

The Junior champions on Saturday were Jayden Rinken (100), Kolter Burton (106), Everest Sutton (113), Garret Rinken (120), Robert Baylon (126), Sam Sutton (132), Regino Raiz (138), Kaden Keiser (145), Israel Moreno (152), Austin Scott (160), Hunter Hobbs (170), Hunter Jones (182), Robert Plympton (195), Mark Marin III (220) and Paul Clark (285).

The rest of the age groups kick off their tournaments this evening following the completion of the 16U, Junior, and Recruiting Showcase divisions. 8U, 10U, 12U and 14U will wrestle their preliminary rounds tonight and then they will complete their tournaments tomorrow morning.
