DES MOINES, Iowa – Sydney Perry of Illinois won a battle of nationally ranked stars in the 138-pound finals and was named Outstanding Wrestler in the Girls High School division at the USA Wrestling Brian Keck Preseason Nationals on Sunday afternoon.

Perry, who holds a No. 7 national ranking, scored a 6-0 shut out over No. 10 ranked Avangeline Turner of Central Catholic WC of California in the finals. Perry was excellent on her feet, including a slick ankle pick takedown on the way to her finals win. She now trains with Izzy Style Wrestling.

Four 2020 Brian Keck Preseason Nationals champions were able to win again with victories in the Girls High School finals: Molly Allen of The Best Wrestler of Iowa (106), Shelby Moore of Takedown Express WC of Washington (127), Rose Cassioppi of Hononegah WC of Illinois (164) and Sabrina Nauss of the Michigan Revolution (180).

Allen, who entered without a national ranking, defeated No. 23 nationally ranked Mia Zuniga of the Ascend Wrestling Academy of Washington in the finals 6-4. Zuniga scored the first takedown, but Allen was able to get the clutch takedowns late in the match for the win. Allen was the Girls Middle School champion last year at 97 pounds.

Moore and Nauss entered the Brian Keck Preseason Nationals ranked No. 1 in the nation and added another national title to their long list of achievements.

Moore, last year’s champion at 122, moved up this year, and defeated No. 22 ranked Olivia Messerly of the Raider WC of Kentucky, 8-5. Moore scored a number of takedowns in the match, the key to the win.

Nauss won her finals match by pin, putting away No. 10 ranked Ella Beam of North Carolina in 1:44. Nauss won the same weight class as she claimed last year.

Cassioppi, last year’s 154 pound champion, scored the only point of the match on an escape, to edge No. 5 ranked Shannon Workinger of the Ascend Wrestling Academy, 1-0.

Rose Cassioppi was joined by her sister Angelina as a Brian Keck Preseason Nationals champion this year. Angelina, who is ranked No. 23 in the nation, edged Gigi Bragg of the Pinnacle WC in the finals, 2-1 at 100 pounds.

There were pins in the last three matches of the finals. After Nauss scored her pin, she was followed with falls from champions Ella Murphey of the Tennessee Outlaws WC at 200 pounds and Eliana Bommarito of the Michigan Revolution at 225 pounds.

Murphey, who came into the event ranked nationally at No. 14, scored a pin in 2:21 over Azreal Smith of the Hurricane Wrestling Academy.

Bommarito, the No. 1 ranked wrestler at her weight class, stopped Zoe Adam of South Dakota in just 50 seconds in the finals.

Wrestlers from Texas won back-to-back titles with pins from Madison Canales of Gracie Barra Westchase WC at 117 pounds and Olivia Moreno of 3F Wrestling at 122 pounds. Canales powered to a fall in 2:49 over Alyssa Ruiz of All-American WC, while Moreno put away Taylor Colangelo of the Lions WC of Arizona in 2:43.

In a battle of nationally ranked wrestlers from Michigan, Amaria Manuel of the Michigan Revolution, ranked No. 7, defeated Lydia Krauss of the Boyne City Area Wrestling, ranked No. 18, by a 4-0 margin.

Taylor Fierbach-Graveman of South Dakota, ranked No. 5 in the USA, was dominant in her 12-4 major decision over Jordyn Fouse of Team Pennsylvania in the 132-pound finals.

Making a big jump on the national level was AshLynn Goodwin of the Maize WC of Kansas, who edged Maggie Graham of the Bluff City WC of Tennessee, 5-3 at 144 pounds. Graham came in with a No. 8 national ranking, while Goodwin was unranked.

The champion at 112 pounds was Angelina Vargas of Greater Heights Wrestling in Missouri, who secured a 5-2 decision over Carley Ceshker of Ringers WC of Wisconsin in the finals.

All of the girls divisions were completed on Sunday, with champions at the Middle School level, as well as in Grades 1-2 and Grades 3-5 divisions.

The Outstanding Wrestler among the Girls Youth divisions was Isabella Miller of Female Elite Wrestling, the Middle School champion at 110 pounds. Miller won the Brian Keck Preseason Nationals for the second straight year and won her finals match with a pin over Nevada Daniels of the Katy Area WC in 1:52.

Two other girls in the Middle School division won the Preseason Nationals for the second straight year, Caley Graber of the Summit WC at 92 pounds and Kaylyn Harrill of The Best Wrestler at 105 pounds.

The only other girl to win a Brian Keck Preseason Nationals title for the second straight year was Paityn McCann of the Lady Outlaws, the 55 pound champion in the 1st-2nd Grade division.
