Budapest, Hungary – Cory Land defeated Kryrgyzstan’s Zhantoro Mirazaliev, 5-0, in the semifinal session of the Cadet World Championships to advance to tomorrow’s Greco-Roman finals at 55 kg. Land controlled the match, taking a 2-0 lead into the break on the strength of a passivity point and a last-second step out before the period ended. In the second period, he earned another step out point, and then cemented the match with a go-behind with 30 seconds remaining. Land finished eighth at the 2019 Cadet World Championships, missing the opportunity to compete in 2020 due to the global pandemic.

In the finals, Land wrestles Russia’s Valerii Mangutov, a 2019 Cadet World Team member and two-time U15 European champion

The other American competing in the semifinals was Otto Black at 48 kg. Black dropped a tight bout to Turkey’s Servet Angi, a 2021 Cadet European bronze medalist, 5-5, on criteria. Black was leading the bout 5-3, but Angi secured the winning takedown in the match’s waning seconds.

Black will wrestle for bronze tomorrow.

After dropping his opening bout to Germany’s Nikita Ovsjanikov, Jim Mullen was pulled into the 110 kg repechage bracket when Ovsjanikov won his semifinal match. Tomorrow, Mullen will wrestle Armenia’s Lyova Sargsyan for the opportunity to reach the bronze medal match.

Repechage kicks off tomorrow at 5:30 a.m. EST, and the medal round begins at 12:00 p.m. EST streaming on FloWrestling.
