Team Winchester and Team Mensah-Stock advance to Captains' Cup finals

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The first day of the Captains’ Cup was an exciting success with hours of entertaining competition as Team Winchester and Team Mensah-Stock secured their spots in tomorrow’s gold-medal dual.

It will be Team Burkert vs. Team Francis for 3rd/4th place and Team Hildebrandt vs. Team Miracle for 5th/6th place.

Tomorrow’s action begins at 4 pm CT with the 5th/6th place match, followed by the 3rd/4th place match at 5 pm CT and the gold-medal dual at 6 pm live on FloWrestling.

POOL A

Team Winchester emerged as the top team, collecting dual wins over Team Burkert and Team Miracle. Highlighting Team Winchester was Macey Kilty at 62 kg, who took out 2018 World bronze medalist Mallory Velte in the first bout of the day, 11-0. She followed it up with a 10-0 shutout against 2018 Final X runner-up Julia Salata.

Others on Team Winchester going 2-0 on the day included Captain Jacarra Winchester (53 kg), Alyssa Lampe (50 kg) and Alex Glaude at 68 kg. The squad earned a sweep, winning all six bouts, in the dual against Team Miracle.

POOL B

Team Mensah-Stock edged out Team Hildebrandt in its first dual, winning on classification points, the first tie-breaking criteria, 13-12. The dual was secured by Abby Nette, who had to win by a technical fall shutout, which she did over Lauren Louive in the dual’s last match at 57 kg.

Another standout performance on the day came from Dymond Guilford, who claimed a 10-0 win against Captain Victoria Francis. 2019 World champion and Captain Tamyra Mensah-Stock collected a tech fall and a pin to help her squad to victory.
