10 wrestlers claim spots on the Men's Freestyle Cadet World Team

Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – The U15 and UWW Cadet Nationals concluded this afternoon with the best-of-three Cadet Men’s Freestyle World Team Trials finals. The winners will compete at the Cadet World Championship in Budapest, Hungary this July.

At 55 kg, Pennsylvania’s Bo Bassett made his second World Team of the weekend in impressive fashion, downing Idaho’s Mack Mauger in two-straight matches. Basset recorded a 10-0 technical fall in match one and followed it up with a pin in match two. Mauger finished runner-up in the Greco-Roman tournament as well. In nine matches across both styles, Basset recorded seven technical falls and two pins.

Another wrestler to make World Teams in both styles was New Jersey’s Jim Mullen, who skipped his high school state tournament to compete this weekend. In the best-of-three finals, Mullen defeated Iowa’s Bradley Hill in two-straight matches, 18-5 and 9-7.

Iowa’s Nathanael Jesuroga earned the tournament’s outstanding wrestler honors, winning the 51 kg bracket. Jesuroga defeated Cadet World champion Marc-Anthony McGowan, 6-2, in the semifinals. He followed it up with two-straight wins over 48 kg Cadet Greco-Roman World Team member Aden Valencia to claim his spot on the team. Valencia was a 2019 U15 World champion in freestyle and Greco-Roman.

At 48 kg, Missouri’s Luke Lilledahl defeated Pennsylvania’s Nathan Desmond, two matches to none. Lilledahl, who finished third in Greco-Roman, earned 8-5 and 3-0 wins to land his spot on team.

Kentucky’s Spencer Moore knocked off 2019 U15 World bronze medalist Kael Lauridsen in a three-match series at 55 kg. Moore dropped match one, 5-3, before coming back and taking matches two and three, 5-3 and 11-4.

In another three match series, Beau Mantanona topped Brock Bobzien in an all-California final at 60 kg. Mantanona locked up a cradle and pinned Bobzien, the Cadet Greco-Roman Team member, in match one. Bobzien bounced back with a 6-3 win in match two. The final match in the series was a wild one, with Mantanona pulling off a 12-10 victory.

Meyer Shapiro dominated in the 65 kg finals with two technical falls over Cadet Greco-Roman World Team member Jadon Skellenger, 17-6 and 10-0.

At 71 kg, Levi Haines gutted out a victory over Aiden Riggins in three matches. Haines took match one with a 12-2 technical fall. Riggins bounced back in match two with a 6-6 criteria decision. Haines ended the series emphatically with a pin in match three to lock up his World Team spot.

James Rowley picked up two-straight wins over Connor Mirasola, 10-0 and 9-4, to claim the 80 kg spot. While Gavin Nelson, a U15 Greco-Roman World Team member, scored two-straight, 10-0, technical falls over Pj Casale, earning the spot at 92 kg.
