UWW U15 Nationals men's freestyle semifinals set with eight wrestlers looking to bring home double titles

Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – Day two of the UWW U15 and Cadet Nationals has concluded, and tomorrow’s semifinals matchups are established. In the U15 field, eight of yesterday’s ten Greco-Roman champions are still in the hunt for a freestyle title, which would secure their spots on the U15 Pan Am Team competing in both styles in Mexico City, Mexico this October.
At 38 kg, Domenic Monaretto will square off with Slater Hicks in a rematch of yesterday’s best-of-three finals, which Monaretto won two matches to none, 3-2 and 2-0. Both wrestlers earned two technical falls in two matches today.
Haakon Peterson is the next wrestler with the opportunity to double up at 41 kg. Peterson will square off with Rocco Cassioppi in the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Rocco’s twin brother Bruno will take on Michael Romero, with a potential interfamily clash looming should they both win.
Cooper Hilton looked dominant in his quest to claim his second title this weekend at 44 kg, earning three technical falls en route to the semifinals. On the other side of the bracket, Isaiah Cortez also rattled off three technical falls. Hilton defeated Cortez in the Greco-Roman finals, two matches to one.
Matthew Martino has been equally dominant at 48 kg, earning three technical falls in three matches, preserving his opportunity to win back-to-back titles. Likewise at 52 kg, Greco champion Jackson Heslin has yet to be pushed, winning all three of his matches by technical fall.
Both Greco-Roman finalists are alive in the 62 kg bracket as well. Greco champ Ladarion Lockett earned a 16 second pin in his opening match and followed it up with a 10-0 technical fall. Greco runner-up, Brodie Dominique, who is on the other side of the bracket, earned a 9-1 decision in his opening match and a 10-0 technical fall in the quarterfinals.
At 75 kg, Aeoden Sinclair only wrestled one match today, scoring a 10-0 technical fall. Sinclair earned four technical victories in four matches yesterday.
The 85 kg bracket is a round robin, and it looks like yesterday’s finalists Garett Kawczynski and De'alcapon Veazy could be on a collision course once again. Kawcyznski, who claimed the title yesterday, earned a 25 second pin in his only match of the day, while Veazy claimed a 14-4 technical fall.
