Five wrestlers are still in contention to make World Teams in both styles as men’s freestyle Cadet World Team Trials semifinals are set

Wisconsin Dells, Wis. – Day two of the UWW Cadet and U15 Nationals is underway. The Cadet World Team trials have reached the semifinal round and will resume tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. CST, while the UWW U15 Freestyle Nationals begin today at 4:00 p.m. CST.

Bo Bassett (45 kg), Aden Valencia (51 kg), Brock Bobzien (60 kg), Jadon Skellenger (65 kg) and Jim Mullen (110 kg), all reached the semifinals today after earning spots on the Cadet Greco-Roman World Team last night. Of note, Valencia moved up to 51 kg after competing at 48 kg yesterday.

All five wrestlers have looked strong in their opening round matches, with Basset and Valencia each going 2-0 with two technical falls and Mullen going 2-0 with a technical fall and a pin. Skellenger, who won the outstanding wrestler award in Greco-Roman, is 4-0 with a pin, a technical fall and two decisions including a hard-fought 6-3 quarterfinal victory over Pierson Manville. Bobzien is also 4-0 with three technical falls and a decision.

At 71 kg, Joe Sealey turned heads with a quarterfinal pin over U15 World silver medalist Antrell Taylor. The pair were locked up at two points apiece, when Sealey, a North Carolina resident, executed a perfectly-timed inside trip while Taylor attempted to jack up underhooks, taking him to his back for the fall.

Cadet Greco-Roman World Team Trials champion, Ryder Rogotzke also picked up an impressive pin, sticking No. 2 in the country Gabe Arnold in the 80 kg bracket. Rogotzke reached back and whipped Arnold over for the fall as he was attempting to go behind and finish off a takedown. Rogotzke fell in the quarterfinals to Iowa’s Tate Naaktgeboren, 5-3.

One of tomorrow’s mostly highly anticipated semifinal matches will take place in the bottom half of the 51 kg bracket where Cadet World Champion Marc-Anthony McGowan will square off with Nathan Jesuroga. McGowan is currently the No. 1 wrestler in the country at 113 pounds in FloWrestling’s rankings, while Jesuroga is ranked No. 3.
