Mitchell Mesenbrink named USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare

Mitchell Mesenbrink (Hartland, Wis./Penn State) has been named the USA Wrestling Athlete of the Week, presented by U.S. Air Force Special Warfare, on Feb. 14, 2024.

Mesenbrink went 2-0 for the Nittany Lions in their commanding wins over Iowa and Rutgers. In Penn State’s dual against Iowa on February 9, redshirt freshman Mesenbrink, ranked No. 7 at 165, totaled three takedowns and riding time for a 12-6 win over No. 6 Michael Caliendo to propel Penn State to a 14-6 lead.

On Monday, Penn State hosted Big Ten foe Rutgers in the Bryce Jordan Center, picking up their tenth dual win of the season and the 1,000th dual meet victory in Penn State wrestling history. Mesenbrink used five takedowns on his way to an 18-3 technical fall in PSU’s 35-3 win.

Mesenbrink is a two-time age group World medalist and won the 74 kg title at the 2023 U20 World Championships in Amman, Jordan, last year. He is also a two-time U20 Pan-American Championships gold medalist.
