King women get four champions at tough Robert Horton Memorial Invite at Emmanuel

FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. - In one of the first big college women’s open tournaments of the new year, NCAA No. 4 King won four individual titles at the Robert Horton Memorial Invitational, hosted by Emmanuel on Sunday.
The event featured five NCAA teams, three top NAIA teams and an NCWA program.
King’s individual champions were Sophia Mirabella (123), Phoenix Dubose (130), Ashlynn Ortega (143) and Tavi Heidelberg-Tollson (191).
Ortega, a junior and a two-time college All-American, is the most experienced of King’s champion. She scored a 10-0 technical fall over Morgan Norris of Presbyterian in the finals.
Dubose and Heidelberg-Tillotson are talented sophomores, both who were NCWWC All-Americans last year. Dubose, fourth in the nationals as a freshman, edged Emmanuel’s Emily Se in the finals, 3-2. Heidelberg-Tillotson, a NCWWC runner-up in 2020, stopped Cristina Santoyo of Emmanuel in the finals, 3-1.
Mirabella, a freshman and past kickboxing champion, knocked off Julia Vidallon of Life, 6-4 in the finals. Vidallon was ranked No. 3 in the NAIA in the preseason.
NAIA No. 5 Life had three individual champions, junior Katalina Bartelt (109), sophomore Peyton Prussin (116) and senior Jordan Nelson (170).
Bartelt stopped Presbyterian’s Cassandra Lopez, 8-0. Prussin stopped Presbyterian’s Jaslynn Gallegos, 12-5. Nelson scored a 10-0 technical fall over King’s Nia Crossdale. Prussin was ranked No. 1 in the NAIA in the preseason.
Host Emmanuel, preseason No. 3 in the NCAA, had a pair of champions, Angelina Gomez (101) and Kayla Marano (155). Gomez won by technical fall in the finals over Elizabeth Dosado of the Univ. of the Cumberlands, 10-0. Marano stopped King’s Viktorya Torres, 5-3.
The other individual champion was Bridgette Duty of the University of the Cumberlands, No. 7 in the NAIA preseason poll, had an individual champions, Bridgette Duty at 136. Rnaked No. 2 in the NAIA in the preseason, Duty beat Felicity Bryant of Emmanuel, 10-8 in the finals.
