Beat the Streets Los Angeles kicks off Summer Academy
by Beat the Streets Los Angeles
On June 29, 2020, the Beat the Streets Los Angeles Summer Academy program kicked off for nearly 200 girls and boys across Los Angeles.
Due to limitations posed by social distancing requirements, the academy will be delivered virtually through a mix of Zoom, Google Classroom, and personal mentorship calls with the student-athletes in the program.
“We are thrilled to be in a position to continue to make a positive impact in the lives of the youth in our community. We have a team of 30 outstanding coaches and mentors that will spend five weeks engaging and mentoring our youth. Despite the fact that we cannot be together on a wrestling mat, we will continue to deliver wrestling knowledge, physical fitness, academic engagement and mentorship to our youth.” Yero Washington, Executive Director of Beat the Streets Los Angeles.
Beat the Streets Los Angeles is teaming up with USAW, Rx Smart Gear, NCAA Champion Anthony Robles, and 3X World Team Member, Reece Humphrey to provide the most engaging content possible for the Summer Academy. In addition, participants will receive a custom BTSLA cinch bag containing a jump rope, chess set, book, health living journal, and yoga mat.
Founded in 2012, Beat the Streets Los Angeles strives to be a leader in the sports-based youth development movement by creating sustainable wrestling programs accessible to all youth in Los Angeles and its surrounding communities.
Since its inception, Beat the Streets Los Angeles has touched the lives of thousands of girls and boys with 26 programs across the area, and has awarded more than 600 scholarships to some premier wrestling camps.
