On November 30, Penn State head coach Cael Sanderson tweeted out the date, “December 22”. Yesterday, the Nittany Lion Wrestling Club and Sanderson tweeted out a graphic featuring the NLWC logo and the Wolfpack Wrestling Club. While no matches have been announced just yet, it doesn’t take much work to connect the dots.
This will be the fourth event that the NLWC has hosted and streamed via Rokfin since September. It is the first event that they have branded as a matchup between Regional Training Centers. The NLWC is one of the country’s top RTCs, with numerous elite Senior athletes including Olympic and World champion Kyle Snyder, World champion David Taylor, World silver medalist Thomas Gilman, Puerto Rican Olympic silver medalist Jaime Espinal and Puerto Rican World silver medalist Franklin Gomez, just to name a few.
The Wolfpack Wrestling Club is coming off a fourth-place finish at the inaugural Titan Mercury RTC Cup, which was streamed last weekend on FloWrestling. Led by two-time World bronze medalist Nick Gwiazdowski and 2019 Junior World bronze medalist Trent Hidlay, who turned in a 5-0 performance, the WWC pushed eventual champions Cliff Keen Wrestling Club to criteria in two separate duals.
Regional Training Centers across the country have put on numerous cards in the past several months featuring Senior-level matches in all three styles.
Last week, during their 14-match card on Fite.TV, the Tar Heel Wrestling Club announced their plans for a January 8th event featuring the Spartan Combat RTC, with Yianni Diakomihalis vs. Austin O’Connor as the main event.
USA Wrestling will continue coverage as more details about these events are released.
