Match of the Day: Dennis Koslowski defeats two-time Olympic champion Andrzej Wronski at the 1992 Olympic Games
by USA Wrestling
At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Dennis Koslowski made history by becoming the first American to win two Olympic medals in Greco-Roman. To this day, Rulon Gardner is the only other American to accomplish this feat.
Before emerging on the Senior Greco-Roman scene, Koslowski was a two-time NCAA Division II champion for the University of Minnesota-Morris. Over the course of his career, Koslowski made four World Teams and two Olympic Teams, earning a silver medal at the 1987 World Championships in Clermand-Ferrand, France, a bronze medal at the 1988 Olympics in Seoul, South Korea and a silver medal at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, Spain.
In the opening round of the 1992 Games, Koslowski faced a brutal draw, the returning Olympic champion Andrzej Wronski of Poland. Wronski had defeated Koslowski, 1-0, at the 1988 Olympics. This time around however, Koslowski would not be denied, and he toppled the Olympic champ.
In 1996, Wronski won another gold medal at the Olympic Games in Atlanta. Additionally, he captured a World title in 1994, a World silver in 1999 and World bronze in 1993 and 1997.
