Match of the Day: Jordan Burroughs wins gold at the 2012 London Olympics
by USA Wrestling
Had the 2020 Olympic Games taken place as originally scheduled, wrestling would be underway this week. With this in mind, let’s look at some historic matches from Olympics past.
One year after winning his first World Championship, Jordan Burroughs brought home gold at the 2012 London Olympic Games. In the finals, Burroughs wrestled the same opponent he defeated to take gold at the 2011 World Championships, Sadegh Goudarzi of Iran. Goudarzi was a two-time World silver medalist (2010, 2011) and one-time World bronze medalist (2009).
Eight years after winning his Olympic gold, Burroughs has added six more World medals to his collection, three gold and three bronze. He will already go down in history as one of the greatest American wrestlers of all time, and he isn’t finished adding to his legacy yet.
