Match of the Day: Forrest Molinari and Maya Nelson battle in the 2019 U.S. Open finals
by USA Wrestling
Last April, Forrest Molinari and Maya Nelson squared off in the U.S. Open finals at 65 kg. This match ended up being a precursor to their battle for a World Team spot several months later at Final X: Rutgers. With 65 kg not being an Olympic weight class in women’s freestyle, it looks like the pair are headed in opposite directions with Molinari moving up to 68 kg and Nelson dropping to 62 kg.
Molinari has made the Senior World Team the past two years and placed fifth at the World Championships in both 2018 and 2019. She is also a two-time U23 World Team member (2017, 2018) and a 2015 Junior World Team member.
Nelson is a 2017 Junior World champion and a 2016 Junior World bronze medalist. She has also competed on two U23 World Teams (2017, 2019)
