Nowry and Stefanowicz pulled into tomorrow's repechage at Greco-Roman World Championships

Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan – Two Americans will have the opportunity to try to earn bronze medals at the World Championships tomorrow. Max Nowry (Colorado Springs Co./U.S. Army WCAP) and John Stefanowicz (Camp LeJeune, N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) will both compete in the Greco-Roman repechage rounds tomorrow morning.
Khorlan Zhakansha of Kazakhstan pulled Nowry back into repechage this evening. In the 55 kg semifinals, Zhakansha upset returning World champion Eldaniz Azizli of Azerbaijan in a thrilling 11-5 match. The Kazakhstani got the home crowd riled up, putting Azizli to his back several times. 
Zhakansha defeated Nowry, 3-2, in the quarterfinals.

Nowry will wrestle 2019 African Champion Abdelkarim Fergat of Algeria in repechage. If he wins, he will face Azizli for bronze. 
At 82 kg, Lasha Gobadze of Georgia kept Stefanowicz’s medal hopes alive by defeating Nurbek Khashimbekov of Uzbekistan, 3-1. Gobadze defeated Stefanowicz, 7-0, in the opening round.
Tomorrow, Stefanowicz will face 2019 Asian Championships bronze medalist Haitao Qian of China. Qian shocked the arena when he pinned returning silver medalist Emrah Kus of Turkey in the opening round. 
If Stefanowicz wins, he will face Khashimbekov for bronze.

The third American wrestler awaiting their fate in the afternoon session was not so fortunate. Raymond Bunker (Camp LeJune N.C./U.S. Marine Corps) was eliminated from the tournament at 72 kg when Aram Vardanyan of Uzbekistan defeated Aik Mnatsakanian of Bulgaria, 4-1, in the semifinals. Mnatsakanian defeated Bunker in the quarterfinals, 6-2. Bunker ends his first World Championships with a 1-1 record.
Tomorrow's action begins at 11:00 a.m. local time. It will be streamed live on TrackWrestling.
