BUDAPEST, Hungary – Three Americans will learn their repechage fate tonight after falling the first session of Greco-Roman action on Friday at the 2019 U23 World Championships in Budapest, Hungary.

Looking to be pulled back in is Jesse Porter, Matt Finesilver and David Tate Orndorff.

At 130 kg, Orndorff won his first bout against Deepak Poonia of India. Trailing 1-0 at the break, Orndorff put together a big second period, recording a takedown and later a big four-pointer to claim a 6-1 victory.

In his second bout, Orndorff fell to 2018 U23 World silver medalist and three-time Junior World medalist Osman Yildirim of Turkey, 9-0.

Yildirim went on to win his quarterfinal with a 50-second pin over 2015 Cadet World silver Robert Ersek of Hungary to advance to the semifinals.

Tonight the Turk will face 2019 Junior World champion and 2018 U23 World bronze medalist Aliakbar Yousofiaahmadchali of Iran. Should Yildirim win, he will pull Orndorff into repechage.

Wrestling at 77 kg, three-time U23 World Team member Porter lost to three-time Junior World medalist Sajan Sajan of India in his first bout.

Though Porter was aggressive and battled the entire match, Sajan won the bout 6-0.

Eventually, the Indian advanced to tonight’s semifinals, where he will face Kodai Sakuraba, who took 13th at the 2016 Junior World Championships. Should Sajan win, he will pull Porter into repechage.

At 87 kg, Finesilver lost Kiril Maskevich of Belarus in the first round, 9-0. The Belarussian ended the match quickly with a four-point takedown and a big lift.

Maskevich went on to advance to the semifinals, where he will face reigning U23 World champion Semen Novikov of Ukraine. Should Maskevich win, he will pull Finesilver into repechage.
