#FreestyleFriday: Suriano talks win over World bronze medalist Joe Colon
by Mike Willis
Beat the Streets Grapple at the Garden was loaded with excellent matches. The event was highlighted by Jordan Burroughs taking out MMA superstar Ben Askren 11-0, but the show may have been stolen by Yianni Diakomihalis defeating No.1 in the world, Bajrang Punia 10-8.
Perhaps slightly overlooked due to the other high profile results was the biggest upset of the night, 2019 NCAA Champion Nick Suriano beating returning World bronze medalist Joe Colon 3-1. Suriano, a wrestler more known for his folkstyle game than his freestyle prowess, scored the only takedown of the match to earn the win.
Listen to this interview to hear what Suriano has to say minutes after pulling the upset.
