Green, Molinaro win repechage bouts putting seven from USA into Friday’s Dan Kolov medal round

RUSE, Bulgaria – The USA won two of their three repechage matches on Friday morning, which brings up the total of Americans going for a medal on Friday at the Dan Kolov International to seven.


Claiming wins in repechage at 70 kg were two-time World medalist James Green (Lincoln, Neb./Sunkist Kids/Nebraska WTC) and 2016 Olympian Frank Molinaro (Norman, Okla./TMWC/Oklahoma RTC).


Green scored a 12-2 technical fall over Haithem Dakhlaoui of Tunisia. He will face Andriy Kyvatkovskyy of Ukraine in his bronze bout.


Molinaro stopped Sirojiddin Khasanov of Uzbekistan, 10-2 in repechage. He will battle Viktor Rassadin of Russia in his bronze-medal bout.


The other U.S. athlete in repechage this morning was Riley LeFever (State College, Penn./ Nittany Lion WC) at 92 kg/202.5 lbs., who lost to Suleyman Karadeniz of Turkey.


In yesterday’s action, the U.S. had secured five athletes in medal rounds today, led by Alex Dieringer (Stillwater, Okla./TMWC/Cowboy RTC) at 79 kg/174 lbs., who is seeking gold against Omarakhab Nazhmudinov of Romania.


Others going for bronze will in men’s freestyle will be 2018 World bronze medalist Joe Colon (Fresno, Calif./TMWC/Valley RTC) at 61 kg/134 lbs, and Michael Macchiavello (Raleigh, N.C./Wolfpack RTC) at At 92 kg/202.5 lbs.


In women’s freestyle, 2017 Junior World champion Maya Nelson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Sunkist Kids/OTC) will wrestle 2018 U.S. World Team member Forrest Molinari (Iowa City, Iowa/TMWC/Hawkeye WC) for a bronze at 65 kg.


The medal rounds are set for 6 p.m. local time, which is seven hours ahead of U.S. Eastern time zone. The tournament is broadcast live on FloWrestling.
