Amy Fearnside earns Outstanding Wrestler and USA brings home four golds at Canada Cup

Amy Fearnside won the Canada Cup at 53 kg and took home the Outstanding Wrestler Award.
Calgary, Canada- The Canada Cup concluded this evening with the United States bringing home 12 medals, four of which were gold.
In women’s freestyle Team USA had three champions, Victoria Anthony (50 kg), Amy Fearnside (53 kg) and Victoria Francis (72 kg)
Anthony and Fearnside shredded through the competition, earning three technical falls and not surrendering a single point. Anthony outscored her opponents 35-0, while Fearnside outscored her opponents 30-0.
Fearnside’s toughest match on paper was her semifinal opponent, Canada’s University World Champion, Jade Dufour. Fearnside defeated her, as well as two other Canadian opponents, 10-0, to win the title and take the tournament’s Outstanding Wrestler award.
Francis, the only World Team member competing, picked up the third gold. In a Final X rematch in round one, Francis defeated current National Team No. 2, Alyvia Fiske by fall. She followed it up with another fall over Hannah Gladden (USA). In the finals she defeated 2019 Pan-American champion, Dejah Slater (Canada), 4-1.
The men’s freestyle contingent managed to net a gold medal as well, despite sending a small group of wrestlers. After a close 11-10 victory over three-time Canadian World Team member Michael Asselstine, Robbie Mathers picked up back-to-back technical falls to take home the 70 kg title. In the finals, Mathers defeated fellow American Ty Lydic, 16-6.
